Nov.16, 2010

Quote by the real Jason Orange of Take That during an interview on Radio 2’s Steve Wright show ref the cast of The Magic of Take That:

“They were brilliant, better than us. . . I could spot all the lads. They had the mannerisms, they had the outfits, the haircuts. They were just all a bit taller than us, a bit more handsome and better singers and dancers.”

KENT NEWS LOVES BURLESQUE!

by easytheatres
Sep.06, 2010

An Evening of Burlesque has recieved a fantastic review by Jane Connolly of the Kent News!  Here are our favourite quotes:

“…Local girl Kiki Kaboo, was on hand to guide us through the etiquette of a burlesque show, which basically involved ooh-ing, aah-ing and cheering for more. The audience was game for a laugh and the atmosphere was already a warm one when the first act took to the stage.

From the rather raucous Hot Cake Kitty to the coquettish charm of Slinky Sparkles, the girls came in all shapes and sizes. Teaming fantastic costumes, hair and make-up with performances that oozed attitude and confidence, these girls seem to transport us back to a classier, more elegant time. . .”

THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC’S AMANDA BELL TAUGHT KELLY BROOK HER MOVES.

by easytheatres
Aug.27, 2010

The forthcoming date with Thank You for the Music at the IndigO2 at the O2 Arena is Amanda Bell’s second appearance with the show at the prestigious venue.

“I lived in Greenwich for some time so the show is not only a chance to play in the famous O2, it’s also an opportunity to party with my friends,” she says.

Amanda has recently moved home to Dartford, Kent – a life on the road being the motivation behind uprooting to Mick Jagger’s birthplace.

“I don’t drive so my fellow performers kindly pick me up and take me to venues,” she says, “Out of consideration for them I thought I should move to within easy reach of the M25.”

It also brings her nearer to her parents who come from Chatham.

“I was bought up in Chatham and attended teacher training at the Kent College of Dance in Maidstone,” she says.

“My dad was an academic and encouraged me to get qualified, it’s stood me in good stead over the years.”

Her pupils have included model, TV presenter and – very recently following the release of big-budget movie Piranha 3D – film star Kelly Brook.

“It was before her big break presenting Channel 4’s Big Breakfast. She was a good student, but at the time there was no clue to the fame and fortune she was about to experience.”

Similarly, Amanda didn’t envisage the career fork she was about to experience.

Work as a choreographer was steady and taking Amanda all over the world, from Australia to Canada, Russia to Singapore.

However, performance work was bolstering her income and the shows were getting bigger and bigger. Tours with the likes of The Rocky Horror Show and Grease led to a starring role as Frida of ABBA in the West End.

“I’d performed a couple of ABBA songs in other shows I’d appeared in, and because I resemble Frida, I started getting work deputising in several different ABBA shows,” she says.

Two years ago she joined the cast of Thank You for the Music and now travels the world with the hit production.

MAGIC OF MOTOWN + SANDI THOM AT ABERDEEN ENERGY BALL 2010!

by easytheatres
Aug.24, 2010

The Press and Journal Arena at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre was transformed for Saturday’s event celebrating the success of the Energy industry in the past twelve months.

A Bristow helicopter, luxury cars and glittering Jamieson & Carry jewels decked one end of the venue.  At the other end of the hall, dozens of beautifully-decorated white tables surrounded the dance floor, set in front of a stage with a wall of twinkling lights.

Scottish folk star Sandi Thom raced on to the dance floor on the back of a motorcycle and soon had the crowd clapping along with her biggest hit I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker, in addition to Runaway Train, from her newest album Merchants and Thieves.

But all agree that it was The Magic of Motown show which really “got everyone buzzing”.  Our talented group wowed the crowd with the music of The Jackson 5, The Temptations, The Four Tops and many more.  Donna Allan, of Impact Imaging, said: “It was a brilliant night with a wonderful ambience, and The Magic of Motown was fantastic.”

BRAZIL GOES NUTS FOR ABBA MAGIC!

by easytheatres
Aug.12, 2010

Here in the UK you’d walk past talented musician Martin Spooner without a second look – unless perhaps he was wearing his sequin-spangled jump suit.

In Brazil, however, Martin – who plays Bjorn in the hit concert show Thank You for the Music – is a TV celebrity and is regularly mobbed in the street.

Martin scratches his long blond, Seventies-style wig as he ponders how he has become famous in a country 6,000 miles away and where the people don’t speak English.

“Our first tour of Brazil was a year ago,” he says, “it was with a company that was closely connected to the TV stations there.

“We’ve been asked back six times since then and our live shows feature regularly on television.”

“The scale of the country takes some getting used to, instead of driving from show to show you have to fly.”

It was television appearance on Brazil’s national TV channel that led to Martin’s elevation to celebrity status there.

“In a country that’s home to 192 million Brazilians who are all big ABBA fans that turned out to be a hell of a lot of exposure.”

Martin returns to Brazil next week <w/c 16/8/10> for three appearances in Sao Paulo.

“That’s in three different venues,” explains Martin. “The city’s population is 30 million people, that’s half the population of Britain.”

hsbc-brazil-august-promo-2

His new-found, Latin American celebrity status has come as a bit of a shock to Martin, who has starred with the cast of Thank You for the Music for the past 17 years.

On several occasions on the road, Thank You for the Music has outsold the likes of Status Quo, Lulu and Jim Davidson at top UK venues, as it has played to more than a quarter of a million fans each year.

Martin was born to a musical family. His first musical instrument, a set of drums, set him on a career in show business aged just five!

While still at school he joined a professional rock band whose busy schedule took them all over the UK and Europe.

After four years it was time to move on musically, and Martin set about forming his own band.

His new group, Midnite, took on a different musical direction and soon found a new audience within the soul and dance music genre. A record and publishing deal followed and the group had a top 20 hit in the Blues & Soul dance charts with the single Paradise Drive.

After a very successful time in the studio, it became evident that Martin was really missing the excitement of the stage.

Seventeen years ago he joined the cast of Thank You for the Music – a live concert show featuring the music of Abba and the Bee Gees.

He averages more than 100 dates at the top venues around the world each year.

Martin’s band Abba Magic is renowned as the UK’s number one live Abba tribute and this year will have been performing for longer than Bjorn, Agnetha, Benny and Frida did during their prolific career.
