An Evening of Burlesque

Published Friday 5 October 2012 by Mark Ritchie

….All red lips and wiggling derrieres, the enthusiastic audience is soon making whoopee and joining in the fun.

Burlesque and variety are closely related within the history of both the European and American versions of the art. The audience clearly enjoys a real variety experience, with comedy sketches and a great knife throwing act by AJ James. All of this plus the extraordinary Kalki Hula Girl…

Other highlights include Amber Topaz, who produces a supper from her bra while performing the song Tits and Ass from A Chorus Line. Once chicken legs are removed, what remains of her skimpy outfit lights up like a lingerie Christmas tree.

Those looking for the future of variety might do well to research its past. The cyclical nature of show business may indicate that the current resurgence in interest for burlesque should be reflected on television.

“Despite this show’s over-18s policy at the box office, there is nothing here but good naughty fun, with nipple tassels and killer heels all adding to the visual impact”.
